HomeMy WebLinkAbout2887 Business License Fees Ordinance No. 2887 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AMENDING THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 5.08, SECTION 5.08.060, FEE/TERM AND SECTION 5.08.180, SAME BUSINESS -MULTIPLE LOCATIONS RELATING TO BUSINESS LICENSE FEES WHEREAS, business license fees of $25.00 per year were set by Ordinance 2460 in 1995, and have not been modified since; and WHEREAS, Council determines it appropriate to modify fees and make other changes, as set forth in this Ordinance, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend ordains as follows: SECTION 1. Chapter 5.08, Business Licenses, Section 5.08.060, Fee/Term, of the Port Townsend Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 5.08.060 Fee/term. A. Fee. Unless otherwise provided by this chapter, the required license fee for a business shall be $25.00 per year, which fee is nonrefundable, whether or not the application is later denied. B. Term. Unless otherwise provided by this chapter, all licenses shall be for a period of one year, beginning January 10f each year and expiring the following December 31. C. The fee for a business license applied for after July 1 shall be $12.50, which license shall expire on December 31 of the same year. D. Temporary Business. Any person who intends to conduct a business temporarily may apply for a license for a period of 90 days. The fee for a temporary license shall be $12.50. E. Upon receipt of a written statement attesting to the loss, theft, or destruction of an otherwise valid license, the Finance Director shall reissue a license for the duration of the license term upon receipt of a $10.00 fee. Page 1 Ordinance 2887 SECTION 2. Section applicable to transition in license period. Current business license shall be valid for the period which they were issued. The fee for a new (non-renewed) license applied for after July 1 shall be the amount set in Section 1 at 5.08.060(C). The fee for a new license that is a renewal of an existing license shall be prorated for the period August 1 to December 31 based on the fee set in Section 1, and the Finance Director shall issue a license for the period from the date of application to December 31, 2006. SECTION 3. Severability. If any provision of this ordinance or its application to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the ordinance, or the application of the provision to other persons or circumstances is not affected. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days after the date of its publication in the manner provided by law. Adopted by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, at a regular meeting thereof, held this second day of December, 2004.
