HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-025 Grant Application Washington State Transportation Improvement Board - Howard Street Extension Resolution I1-025 TIB Grant Howard Street Page I of I RESOLUTION NO. 11-025 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE WASHINGTON STATE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT BOARD FOR THE HOWARD STREET EXTENSION PROJECT I WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend desires to apply for the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) Urban Arterial/Urban Corridor Program Grant; and WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature created TIB to foster State investment in quality local transportation projects; and WHEREAS, the City's grant application requests $3,696,295 in TIB funds with a $1,150,000 local match and a $823,705 STP match; and WHEREAS, the City will use awarded grant funds and match to complete the construction of the Howard Street urban arterial roadway from Sims Way to Discovery Rd; and WHEREAS, the City lists the"Howard Street Extension I" as the first priority in the "Six Year Transportation Improvement Program"; and WHEREAS, the project will construct approximately 1,700' of new multi-modal (vehicles, walking, biking, transit) roadway connecting Sims Way(SR 20) to Discovery Road that links the Upper Sims Way Commercial District to residential neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, the Howard Street arterial roadway improves safety and access to Discovery Rd, reduces the superfluous volume of through traffic on Sims Way, and creates access to undeveloped commercial and mixed use land; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend that the City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board Urban Arterial/Urban Corridor Program Grant ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting thereof, held this 3rd day of October 2011.
