AN ORDINANCE pertaining to office hours, amending
Chapter 2.20 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code to reduce the
hours during which City Hall is open to the public, enacting a new
section designating city holidays and setting an effective date.

growth in city population, expanded city services and new state and federal
regulations have substantially increased the workloads of city administratiVe
offices; and
the city lacks sufficient financial resources to increase staff resources and office
facilities commensurate with increased workloads; and
limited office space has diminished security for employees and public funds when
the daily receipts must be counted and balanced at the end of the work day in
close proximity to customers; and
completing each workday with an uninterrupted hour to balance funds and
complete paperwork increases efficiency and defers the need to hire additional
employees; and
it is desirable to list in city ordinance the holidays on which non-emergency city
offices are closed each year; Now, Therefore,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND in regular session assembled
does hereby ordain as follows:
Section 1. Section 2.20.010 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as
follows:
2.20.010 Hours.
All municipal offices of the city shall remain open between the hours of
9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays ~nclus~v¢, excepting the
holidays listed in Section 2.20.020: provided, however, that the offices of the
Finance Department. City Clerk and Building and Community Development shall
close at 4:00 p.m.
Section 2. A new section 2.20.020 is hereby added to the Port Townsend Municipal Code to
read as follows:
2.20.020 City Holidays.
The following days shall be observed as city holidays and non-emergency
offices shall be closed;
New Year's Day
Martin Luther King Day
President's Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Veteran's Day
Thanksgiving Day
Day after Thanksgiving
Christmas Day
January. 1st
Third Monday in January
Third Monday in February.
Last Monday in May
July 4th
First Monday in September
November 1 lth
Fourth Thursday in November
Day after Thanksgiving
December 25th
Section 3. This ordinance shall become effective five days after passage by the City Council,
approval by the Mayor and publication as provided by law.
