HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-013 Waiving Rental Fees - Film FestivalResolution 11 -013 Resolution No. 11 -013 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND ENDORSING THE 2011 PORT TOWNSEND FILM FESTIVAL, AND WAIVING RENTAL FEES FOR USE OF A CITY FACILITY The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, does resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the Port Townsend Film Festival is celebrating its twelfth anniversary in 2011 with a festival whose mission is to bring independent films and filmmakers to our entire community so that everyone can experience enjoyment and inspiration; and WHEREAS, the Festival runs on "volunteer" power, with hundreds of community members pitching in to help make it a success and includes three nights of free outdoor family films on Taylor Street; and WHEREAS, the Festival hosts many well -known filmmakers as well as talented newcomers who interact with students, festival -goers and community members both formally and informally; and WHEREAS, although attendance is heavily local, the Festival has gained attention throughout the state and country, and adds appreciably to the city's continuing reputation as an arts colony; and WHEREAS, the Festival is helping to inspire a developing group of local video filmmakers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council for the City of Port Townsend hereby endorses the 2011 Port Townsend Film Festival and waives the rental fee for the Pope Marine Building and Cotton Building as festival venues September 19 through 26 as well as partial day training sessions on September 14, 18, 19 at the Cotton Building in exchange for the substantial public benefit derived by the City of Port Townsend. ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular business meeting thereof, held this 16`x' day of May 2011.
