HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-015 Grant Application COPSResolution 11 -015 RESOLUTION NO. 11 -015 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES (COPS) HIRING PROGRAM (CHP) WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend desires to apply for CHP grant funding for the hiring of one police officer; and WHEREAS, CHP provides federal funding for 100% of an entry level newly -hired officer's salary and benefits for three (3) years; and WHEREAS, the City funds the officer position for a minimum of one (1) year following the federally funded three (3) years; and WHEREAS, CHP funds may be used to fill existing unfunded vacancies; and WHEREAS, the police department currently has one (1) unfunded vacancy eligible for CHP funding; and WHEREAS, the goal of the CHP grant funded officer position is to enhance community oriented policing capacity and improve problem solving efforts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend that the City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for the COPS Hiring Program grant. ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting thereof, held this 16th day of May 2011.
