RESOLUTION NO. 04-029
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER
INTO AN AGREEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY REGARDING PRIV ACY AND SECURITY
SECTIONS OF THE HEALTH INSURANCE PORTABILITY AND
ACCOUNT ABILITY ACT
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend is a Business Associate of Jefferson
County as specified under the Privacy and Security sections of the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); and
WHEREAS, HIP AA sets forth requirements concerning disclosure and
nondisclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) created or received for or from the
County; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to enter into an Agreement with Jefferson County to
outline the City's responsibility as a Business Associate of Jefferson County as specified
under the Privacy and Security sections of the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Port Townsend that the City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into an agreement
with Jefferson County to outline the City's responsibility as a Business Associate of
Jefferson County as specified under the Privacy and Security sections of the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
ADOPTED by the City Council ofthe City of Port Townsend at a regular
meeting thereof, held this twenty-first day of June, 2004.
