HomeMy WebLinkAbout08132001CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL SESSION OF AUGUST 13, 2001 The City Council of the City of Port Townsend met in special session this thirteenth day of August, 2001, at 6:30 p.m. in the Port Townsend Council Chambers of City Hall, Mayor Geoff Masci presiding. ROLL CALL AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Councilmembers present at roll call were Joe Finnie, Allen Frank, Vem Garrison, Geoff Masci, Syd Lipton, Bill Wolcott and Alan Youse. Staff members present were City Manager David Timmons, City Attorney John Watts, Public Works Director Ken Clow, Finance Director Michael Legarsky, Building & Community Development Director Jeff Randall, Fire Chief Ed Edwards, City Clerk Pam Kolacy, UNFINISHED BUSINESS RECOMMENDATION FROM FINANCE COMMITTEE RE DONATION FOR PUBLIC SAFETY MARINE VESSEL Fire Chief Ed Edwards referred to a packet of material which addressed the questions raised by the Finance Committee at their August 9 meeting regarding the acceptance of a donation earmarked for a public safety marine vessel. The issue has been forwarded by the Public Safety Committee and now the Finance Committee has recommended accepting the donation upon satisfactory response to the issues raised at the committee including libability assessment, operation and maintenance costs, and other issues. Public comment Nancy Dorgan: spoke in support of the recommendation. Motion: Mr. Frank moved to accept the donation of Richard Camfield to the Port Townsend Fire Department, so work can begin on a City Public Safety Marine Vessel and to authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract for the building of the vessel and prepare a supplemental budget to show the capital cost and operations and maintenance for the year 2001. Mr. Garrison seconded. The motion carried unanimously, 7-0, by voice vote. Motion: Mr. Masci moved that the Port Townsend City Council commend in gratitude the generous gift from Richard Camfield to the citizens of Port Townsend which will make it possible for the city to be very diligent and service-minded in defense of citizens in our marine environment. Mr. Garrison seconded. The motion carried unanimously, 7-0, by voice vote.
