AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1692, AND
REQUIRING DOGS TO BE KEPT ON LEASH IN PUBLIC
AItEAS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, IN REGULAR SESSION
ASSEMBLED, DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.
Section 6 of Ordinance No. 1692, passed in 1973,
is here and hereby amended to read as follows;
"Section 6. Any and all of the animals mentioned in this title
shall be deemed to be running at large contrary to the provisions hereof,
if found within the corporate boundaries of the City, unless said
animals are being driven or led along the public streets in the act of
transit or under the immediate control of the person owning or charged
with the care thereof, provided, however, that dogs shall in such places
be kept upon a leash of not more than ten feet in length held by some
person or persons, but if any such animal, other than dogs, shall be
found to be ~Ha~x~x~ safely and properly tied or tethered, or in
the case of all such animals shall be properly fenced, so as to prevent
them from going upon or reaching any sidewalks, streets, alleys, lanes,
parks or any other public lands or places, they shall not be deemed
running at large contrary to the provisions of this title. Any such
animal found to be running at large as provided herein shall be
declared to be a nuisance and may be impounded as such."
Section 2. This ordinance s~all take effect upon its passage,
approval and publication in the form and manner required by law.
Read for the first, second and third times, passed by the
Council and approved by the MaYor on January 7 , 1975.
