HomeMy WebLinkAbout71-002 RESOLUTION NO. 71 - 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, DIR ECTING THE M~%YOR OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, TO ADVISE ALL APPROPRIATE STATE, COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL AGENCIES OF THE OPPOSITION OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON, TO kNY CHANGE IN STATE LAW WHICH WOULD MANDATE A SYSTEM OF REGIONAL LIBRARIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF WASHINGTON THAT WOULD JEOPARDIZE AND TAKE AWAY THE JURISDICTION AND CONTROL OF MUNICIPAL LIBRARY SYSTEMS FROM VARIOUS CITIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE. WHEREAS, on Page 2 of the minutes of November 9, 1970 of the Statewide Library Development Council meeting a recommendation was made that the Washington State Legislature mandate a system of no more than twelve (12) regional libraries, including all areas not now receiving library service, provided that,'-library service nowhere will be reduced, and providing further that, such a system be enacted by the 43rd (1973) session of the Legislature; and, WHEREAS, it is felt that such a change in State Law and regional library system for the State of Washington could jeopardize the municipal library facilities of the City of Port Townsend, Washington by causing saidPort Townsend City Library tO be placed under the jurisdiction of a regional library program and thereby causing the citizens of the City of Port Townsend, Washington to loose control of that valuable municipal asset; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON IN A ~ULAR MEETING, DULY ASSEMBLED, DO HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: THAT the Mayor of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, ad- vise all appropriate State, County and Municipal agencies of the apposition of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, to any change in State Law which would mandate a sy~9~m of r~~-ki~~-~-~- ~-~T~'o~f~ut the State of Washington that would jeopardize and take DATED and SIGNED this 5th day of January, 1971.
