HomeMy WebLinkAbout72-013RESOLUTION NO. 72- 13 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ~ CHIEF OF POLICE TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENTS AND ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE CONTROL AND DIRECTION OF CITY TRAFFIC ON CITY STREETS FOR THE SPECIAL PURPOSE OF PROPER- LY CONTROLLING FERRY TRAFFIC, UPON PAYMENT BY THE FERRY OPERATOR OF A FEE FOR THE ADDITIONAL WAGES OF POLICE PATROLMAN REQUIRED, AND AUTHORIZ- ING THE CITY TREASURER TO ACCEPT PAYMENT FOR SUCH SERVICES. WHEREAS, Olympic Ferries, Inc., a Washington corporation, have requested of the Chief of Police that special traffic direction and control be provided by the Port Townsend Police Department for ferry traffic using city streets in conneciton with the ferry service of said Olympic Ferries, and WHEREAS, said Olympic Ferry Company has agreed to pay the sum of One Hundred Twenty-five an~.~no/100 ($125.00) Dollars per week to the City of Port Townsend to reimburse the City for the additional police personnel required in order to provide such additional traffic direction and control, and WHEREAS, it is found that such traffic direction and control is desirable and will tend to preserve the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of Port Townsend, now, therefore, it is RESOLVED: Section 1. That the Chief of Police of the City of POrt Townsend be and he is hereby authorized and directed to provide traffic control and direction for the handling of ferry traffic loading and unloading in the City of Port Townsend, upon payment to the City of Port Townsend of the sum of One Hundred Twenty-five and no/100 ($125.00) Dollars per week, in advance, for each week that such traffic control and direction is provided for by said police department, and provided that all of said traffic control and direction shall be under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Chief of Police, and that personnel in- volved therein shall not be subject to the orders of any person other than said Chief of Police. Section 2. The City Treasurer of the City of Port Townsend is here and hereby authorized and directed to accept from the Olympic Ferries, Inc., a Washington corporation, payments in the sum of One Hundred Twenty-five and no/100 ($125.00) Dollars per week, either singly or for more than one week in advance, and to deposit the same in the General Fund of the City for the purpose of defraying costs of additional police patrolmen required for the direction and control of traffic as hereinabove provided. Passes at a regular meeting this 6th day of June, 1972.
