HomeMy WebLinkAbout83-014 RESOLUTION NO. ~--/~ A R~.SOLUT~ON OPPOSING THE CLOSURE OF THE HOOD CANAL BRIDGE ON AUGUST 15, 1983 WHEREAS, the economy of Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula has improved as a result of the Hood Canal Bridge reopening, and, WHEREAS, it is necessary to replace a portion of the bridge, and, WHEREAS, September 20, 1983, was selected as the date of closure in order to accomplish the replacement because it would not hit during the peak of the tourist season, and, WHEREAS, the selection of September 20th was coordinated with the various communities on the Peninsula so as to minimize the adverse effects, and, WHEREAS, the department of transportation has arbitrarily rescheduled the bridge closure to August 15, 1983, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND I'N REGULAR SESSION ASSEMBLED Section 1. That the City Council go on record as being opposed to the closure of the Hood Canal Bridge on August 15, 1983, and encourage the Department of Transportation to revert to the originally planned date of September 20, 1983, for closure.
