RESOLUTION ADOPTING JALAPA, NICARAGUA AS
SISTER-CITY TO PORT TOWNSEND
WHEREAS, World peace depends upon the friendship of peoples
towards one another, and becomes stronger as
people grow in understanding of one another; and
WHEREAS, Citizens of Port Townsend have expressed an active
interest in having Sister-City relationships
with cities in other countries; and
WHEREAS, the municipal authorities of Jalapa, Nicaragua
have responded in friendship to the concept of
being Sister-City of Port Townsend; and
WHEREAS, the city of Jalapa is typical of cities in Central
America and the people there have a very different
lifestyle from ours, relationships with that
city would give us a chance to learn a great deal.
THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Mayor and City Council of
Port Townsend adopt Jalapa as SISTER-CITY to Port
Townsend, creating a Sister-City Committee to
be composed of interested citizens of Port
Townsend; and
FURTHERMORE, the Sister-City Committee will report regularly
to the Mayor, be financially separate from the City
of Port Townsend, and an expression of the active
good will of the People of Port Townsend.
FURTHERMORE, the Sister-City relationship is to be one of
friendship between people and is not meant to be
construed as an endorsement or condemnation of
their form of government.
