A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING A
HANDICAPPED PROGRAM COORDINATOR
AND STATING THE CITY'S POLICY
AGAINST HANDICAPPED DISCRIMINATION
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, that:
Section 1. The ¢&~,~K-~$~~- is hereby designated as the handicapped
program coordinator. This person is responsible for the coordination of all
handicapped compliance programs including:
A. Preparation of notices to the public and to employees stating the
city's policy against handicapped discrimination.
B. Preparation of a grievance procedure for adoption by the council
which provides for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints
alleging descrimination on the basis of handicaps.
C. Evaluation of all city programs and facilities in order to determine
if barriers to the handicapped exist.
D. Completion of non-structural modifications to programs and facilities.
E. Preparation of a transition plan for adoption by the council describing
how structural changes will be made.
Section 2. The City Council does hereby reaffirm its policy to unequivocally
commit to recruit, hire, train, and promote persons to all job classifications
without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, marital
status, or because of sensory, physical or mental handicap, except where bona
fide occupational qualifications apply. Reasonable modifications of a job
or the workplace will be made to enable handicapped persons to perform
jobs for which they are qualified provided that these accommodations will
not impose undue hardship on the operation of city government. It is further
the commitment of the council that no qualified handicapped person shall, on
the basis of handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits
of, or otherwise be subject to discrimination under any program or activity
of the city.
