A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND PROHIBITING PERSONAL
USE OF CITY OWNED VEHICLES
BE IT RESOLVED, that:
City vehicles are to be used strictly for city business, and
no other personal use. It is prohibited to use a city owned vehicle
to commute to and from work except ~or the the following list of
vehicles for special uses or public safety:
1. Clearly marked police and fire vehicles ( the police officer
or firefighter must be on call at all times and the vehicle must
be clearly marked as a police or fire vehicle)
2. Unmarked law enforcement vehicles (personal use must be inci-
dental to law enforcement functions such as being able to report
directly from home to a surveillance site, or to an emergency
situation). To qualify as a law enforcement officer under this
provision, the employee must have the power to arrest and regularly
carry a firearm.
3, Ambulances
4. bucket trucks ("cherry pickers")
5. Dump trucks
6. qualified utility repair trucks (the truck must be specially
equiped so as to preclude personal use and employee must be re-
quired to drive the truck home for the purpose of responding to
emergencies involving water or sewer). Pickups and vans are
excluded from this exemption.
Vehicles other than those listed above are to be kept on city property
when not in use.
