A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
TOWNSEND REPEALING RESOLUTION 07-004 PROVIDING FOR
COPYING CHARGES FOR PUBLIC RECORDS AND AUTHORIZING
THE CITY CLERK/PUBLIC RECORDS OFFICER TO ESTABLISH
COPYING CHARGES FOR PUBLIC RECORDS CONSISTENT WITH
APPLICABLE STATE LAWS
WHEREAS, the City Council by Resolution 07-004 established a fee schedule for
copying records in response to public records requests; and
WHEREAS, public records are provided in many different formats according to the
applicable technology and the fee schedule can become quickly outdated; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, on recommendation of the
City Manager and City Clerk/Public Records Officer, determines it appropriate to repeal
Resolution 07-004 and by this Resolution to authorize the City Clerk to adopt fees for various
copying charges for public records, including updates to fees as needed to respond to requests in
new and different formats; and
WHEREAS, fees for public records must be in accordance with state statute.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend as follows:
1. Effective May 18, 2010, the City Clerk/Public Records Officer, in consultation with
the City Attorney and City Manager, is authorized to establish fees consistent with and
based on applicable laws for various copying and production charges for public records.
2. The fee schedule adopted by the City Clerk shall be posted on the City website and a
copy shall be maintained in the Office of the City Clerk and be available for copying and
inspection by the public.
3. Resolution 07-004 is hereby repealed.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend at a regular meeting
thereof, held this seventeenth day of May, 2010.
