A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AUTHORIZING THE
PURCHASE OF A PORTION OF THE CHINESE-
GARDENS PROPERTY
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend Storm Drainage Plan has
identified a portion of the property known as the Chinese
Gardens as a settling pond essential to the proper disposal
of storm and surface water runoff, and,
WHEREAS, the Port Townsend City Council deems it to be in the
public interest to see that this property remains open space,and,
WHEREAS, the public interest would best be served if the Washing-
~-ton State Department of Parks and Recreation were to manage
this site as part of the state parks system, and,
WHEREAS, the State of Washington Parks and Recreation Commission
has received an emergency appropriation for $750,000.00 to acquire
the major portion of this site, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that:
Section 1. The Mayor and City Clerk be and they are hereby
authorized to execute any and all documents to purchase a
portion of the property known as the Chinese~ Gardens and
described in ,'Exhibit A" attached hereto as though fully
setforth herein and to pay the purchase price therefore of
$50,000.00, including all costs of sale, said funds to come
from the Storm and Surface Water Fund and Capital Improvement
Fund of the City of Port Townsend.
Section 2. The Mayor and City Clerk be and are hereby authorized
and directed to issue the city's warrant or warrants for said
amounts.
Section 3. The actual portion of said property subdivided
to the City of Port Townsend shall be determined by certified
appraisal prior to closing escrow on the transfer of title.
