A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PORT TOWNSEND DECLARING ITS INT~ TO WORK
WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY ON THE ISSUE OF ANIMAL
CONTROL
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend supports exploring
locations for an animal shelter which contribute to public
awareness, stimulate public pride and promote public participation
in programs designed to educate all citizens not only in matters of
animal population control, but also in matters of animal welfare,
and,
WHEREAS, the city supports seeking public input concerning a
new animal shelter and is willing to provide whatever leadership is
deemed appropriate and/or acceptable, and,
WHEREAS, the City believes the citizens will contribute
financially to a facility in which they feel ownership and pride,
the city is prepared to contribute its fair share financially, and,
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that the community has not solved
the problem of dog and cat over-population, and that too many
animals must be killed for lack of suitable homes and that this
problem cannot suffer from over-exposure. INDEED, the hope of
progress towards a solution to the problem requires the
participation of every community member, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Port Townsend desires to work
with Jefferson County in addressing these issues.
