S~NSEND, AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO SEND LETTER TO STATE
DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT REJECTING GRA~"~ IN
THE AMOUNT OF $15,000 FOR REPAIR AND DOCK WORK OF THE
POPE MARINE COHHUNITY CENTER.
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend applied to the State Department
of Community Development for a grant to perform repair work to the
Pope Marine Community Center and dock, and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Community Development granted the
City of Port Townsend grant funds in the amount of $15,000 for such
repair work on condition that work be completed and funds used by
May 31, 1991, and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend submitted the Pope Marine
Community Center project for bid, and
WHEREAS, the bids received for the rehabilitation of the Pope
Marine Community Center and Dock were significantly higher than the
original cost estimates for the project, and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Fisheries restricted the City of
Port Townsend from performing the necessary dock work during the
period of March 15 to June 15 due to underwater vegetation and
other Fisheries concerns, and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend may still benefit by the
redirection of these funds to other projects,
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of
Port Townsend that it authorizes the Mayor to send a letter to the
State Department of Community Development returning the State's
grant in the amount of $15,000.
Adopted by the City Counqil of the City of Port Townsend and signed
