A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PORT TOWNSEND AUTHORIZING A PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
AGREEMENT WITH THE JEFFERSON COUNTY MARITIME BI-
CENTENNIAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, it is necessary for the City of Port Townsend to plan
for the commemmoration of the Bicentennial of George Vancouver's
exploration of Puget Sound and the naming of Port Townsend; and
WHEREAS, the Bicentennial year will make Port Townsend a focus
for Statewide tourist activities during 1992; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend wishes to support the Mari-
time Bicentennial in order to promote civic pride and economic
prosperity and to recognize the significance associated with Van-
couver's exploration of the area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend believes that commemmora-
tion of the Bicentennial will promote the quality of tourist activ-
ities and will have lasting benefits for the community; and
%5{EREAS, the City of Port Townsend is closely linked to tb.e
historic events associated with Vancouver and derives its special
quality and attractiveness to tourists in part from this historic
association;
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Town-
send that the Mayor and City Clerk of the City be and are hereby
authorized to execute the annexed Professional Services Agreement
with the Jefferson County Maritime Bicentennial Organizing Commit-
tee, and the City Clerk-Treasurer is authorized to issue the City's
warrant or warrants and make payment under the Agreement pursuant
to Section 2.B. thereof, for those expenses the City is authorized
by law to pay.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend on
Septe~beF 3, 1991, and signed by the Mayor of the City on Septem-
ber~ , 1991.
