HomeMy WebLinkAbout92-042RESOLUTION NO. ~-- ~- A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT WITH THE JEFFERSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY - MARITIME BICENTENNIAL PROJECT UNDER WHICH THE SOCIETY WILL ORGANIZE AND PROVIDE SERVICES FOR CERTAIN EVENTS COMMEMORATING THE BICENTENNIAL OF THE ARRIVAL OF VANCOUVER, PROMOTING THE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE CITY AND TOURISM AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM HOTEL/MOTEL TAX FUNDS TO PAY FOR THE SERVICES UNDER THE AGREEMENT. WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Washington has found, at R.C.W. 27.34.300, that it is appropriate to commemorate the bicentennial of the arrival in 1792 of George Vancouver to Puget Sound through organizing festivals, symposia, celebrations and other appropriate activities, and WHEREAS, the events to be conducted by the Jefferson County Historical Society - Maritime Bicentennial Project are consistent with the intentions of the Legislature in commemorating the event,and WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend wishes to support and participate in the bicentennial activities and WHEREAS, the activities and services provided under the Agreement will promote tourism in a manner consistent with the provisions of R.CJW. 35.21.700, R.C.W. 67.28.180 and R.C.W. 67.28.210, it is appropriate to use revenues from the hotel/motel tax for the activities, NOW THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the City Council for the City of Port Townsend does hereby authorize the Mayor to sign an Agreement with the Jefferson County Historical Society - Maritime Bicentennial Project authorizing the expenditure of Thirty Thousand Dollars from hotel/motel tax revenues under which the Historical Society will organize, manage and .promote certain events to commemorate the bicentennial of the arrival of George Vancouver to Puget Sound and to promote tourism.
