AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AMENDING
THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 10.28.010,
STATE ROUTE 20--BETWEEN HARRISON STREET AND WESTERN
CITY LIMITS BY ESTABLISHING THE SPEED LIMIT FROM
HARRISON STREET TO THE EASTERN TERMINUS OF WATER
STREET AT 20 MILES PER HOUR, AND ADDING A NEW SECTION
TO CHAPTER 10.28 SPEED LIMITS, ESTABLISHING A SPEED LIMIT
ON HASTING AVENUE TO SHERMAN STREET AT 35 MILES PER
HOUR FROM THE CITY LIMITS TO SHERMAN STREET AND 30
MILES PER HOUR FORM SHERMAN STREET TO DISCOVERY
ROAD
WHEREAS, the Public Safety Committee at its September 21, 2000 meeting,
following review and discussion, moved to recommend to the City Council speed limit
amendments for Hastings Street and Water Street, generally consistent with the City of
Port Townsend Speed Limit Workplan dated July 27, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the City Council determines it appropriate to adopt the
recommendation of the Public Safety Committee
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend ordains
as follows:
SECTION 1. Amendment. SECTION 10.28.010, STATE ROUTE 20--
BETWEEN HARRISON STREET AND WESTERN CITY LIMITS, of the Port
Townsend Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows (strike is deleted,
underline is added):

SPEED LIMITS ESTABLISHED
State Route 20 - Between Harrison Street and western city limits.

Between the western city limits and the eastern terminus of Water Street
No vehicle of any kind shall travel on that portion of State Route 20, also known as
Water Street and Sims Way, in the city, between *~' .... · ~. .... ,~ ..... c u~:o..., e,~,
the eastern terminus of Water Street and the western city limits in excess of the speeds
hereinafter set forth:
A. From the east boundary of Harrison Street to the easternmost terminus of Water
Street, 20 miles per hour;
A. From the east boundary of Harrison Street to the east boundary of Howard
Street (Milepost 10.18), 30 miles per hour;
B. From the east boundary of Howard Street (Milepost 10.18) to the western
corporate boundary (Milepost 9.78), 40 miles per hour.
SECTION 2. New Section. There is hereby added to PTMC Chapter 10.28 a
new section to read as follows:
10.28.020. Hastings Street -Between western city limits and intersection of
Hastings Street and Sherman Road.
The speed limit on that portion of Hastings Street from the western corporate
boundary to the west boundary of Sherman Street is established at 35 miles per
hour, and on Hastings Street from the west boundary of Sherman Street to the
intersection of Hastings Street and Discovery Road, the speed limits is established
at 30 miles per hour, and no vehicle of any kind shall travel on Hastings Street in
excess of 35 miles per hour from the western corporate boundary to the west
boundary of Sherman Street, and in excess of 30 miles per hour on Hastings
Street from the west boundary of Sherman Street to the intersection of Hastings
Street and Discovery Road.
SECTION 3. Severability. If any provision of this ordinance or its application
to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the ordinance, or the
application of the provision to other persons or circumstances is not affected.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days after the date of its
publication in the manner provided by law.
