A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING TIlE MAYOR TO SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, FOREST SERVICE, OLYMPIC
NATIONAL FOREST.
WHEREAS, The City has received notification from the Department of Health that the City
can avoid filtration at this time, contingent on many follow-through action items, including a
watershed control program; and
WHEREAS, The City is under a compliance schedule from the State Department of Health
relating to this watershed plan and its implementation; and
WHEREAS, The Forest Service is the official steward and guardian of National Forest lands
and the Forest Service and the City are have determined that there are mutual interest in and
benefits to be gained from sharing, where possible, responsibilities and costs to implement and
administer programs for the protection of water quality within the municipal watersheds
WHEREAS, The Memorandum of Understanding is intended to clarify the responsibilities and
activities to be performed by each agency during preparation, implementation and management
of a Cooperative Watershed Protection Program for the Big Quilcene River and the Little
Quilcene River; and
NOW THEREFORE
Be it resolved by the City. Council of the City of Port Townsend that it authoriZes the Mayor to
sign a Memorandum of Understanding Mth the USDA Forest Service to work cooperatively on
for the purpose of providing high quali~,~v~ter for domestic use to the City.
