A RESOLUTION recognizing and accepting the results of the
Port. Townsend 2020: Getting. Together public
participation project.
WHEREAS,
WHEREAS,
the future of Port Townsend depends on the actions and
plans of its citizens today; and
to plan for future growth and development, it is
important to understand what Port Townsend citizens want
their city to be like in 20 years and beyond, what they
want to preserve, and what they want to change; and
WHEREAS,
the Washington State Growth Management Act requires that
the City develop a 20-year comprehensive plan; and
one of the major goals of the Washington State Growth
Management Act is to ensure early and continuous public
participation in the land use planning process; and
WHEREAS,
Port Townsend 2020 Coffee Hours were intended to seek new
and more comfortable ways for Port Townsend citizens to
express their feelings, hopes and concerns about the
future of the city; and
WHEREAS,
approximately 600 citizens of all ages participated in 80
coffee hours and school sponsored events to provide the
information in the attached report; and
WHERE~,
the coffee hour process was enthusiastically received by
participants, and should be considered as a tool for
gathering citizen input on city issues in the future; and
WHEREAS,
the results of these coffee hour discussions will be
considered in developing goals and policies for the
comprehensive plan, and will provide guidance to
decision-makers on other topics. Now, Therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
that the Mayor is hereby authorized to accept the results of the
Port Townsend 2020 Coffee Hours, substantially in the form of the
report attached hereto as Exhibit A; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the PT 2020 Report (attached hereto as
Exhibit A) is hereby acknowledged and accepted in appreciation and
gratitude to the many citizens who participated; and

BE IT FURTHER REsoLVED that the results are commended to all city
officials and others whenever decisions affecting the future of
PortTo~w~end are under consideration.
