A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF PORT
TOWNSEND SUPPORTING ADOPTION OF A ONE-TENTH OF ONE
PERCENT LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX BY THE JEFFERSON COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING SUPPLEMENTAL
FUNDING TO THE COUNTY AND CITY CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature, during the 1993 First Special Session,
authorized the imposition of an additional one-tenth of one percent sales tax as a local option to
provide funding for support of the County and City criminal justice system; and
WHEREAS, adequate funding of the city and county criminal justice system is necessary
for the public health, welfare and safety; and,
WHEREAS, the additional revenue from this local option sales tax will allow the County
and City to maintain necessary services to protect against criminal activity;
Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE CITY OF
PORT TOWNSEND:
That the City Council for the City of Port Townsend expresses its support for adoption
of a one-tenth of one percent local option sales tax by the Jefferson County Commissioners for
the purpose of providing supplemental funding to the County and City criminal justice system.
