A RESOLUTION adopting a Community Direction Statement for the City of Port Townsend to
use as a guide in developing the City's Growth Management Act (GMA) Comprehensive Plan.
WHEREAS,
the Port Townsend City Council requested and authorized preparation of a community direction
statement to guide city officials and citizens in the preparation of Port Townsend's GMA
Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS,
a draft Community Direction Statement was prepared using the results of the PT 2020: Getting
Together, public involvement process as a basis; and
WHEREAS,
on March 16 and 23, 1994, the Port Townsend City Council held public workshops to review
and discuss the draft Community Direction Statement in order to determine whether the draft
was reflective of the community's shared goals and vision of what Port Townsend should be in
20 years; and
WHEREAS,
suggestions and comments offered during the workshops by Council members and interested
members of the public have been incorporated into the attached Community Direction
Statement; and
WHEREAS,
the Direction Statement will serve as a useful point of reference as the City develops goals and
policies for the GMA Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS,
the Council intends that the Direction Statement will be reviewed and amended again before the
end of the comprehensiVe planning process to ensure that the values it embodies are consistent
with the community's vision and the goals and policies of the Draft Comprehensive Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
that the attached Community Direction Statement will guide the development and adoption of the Port Townsend
Comprehensive Plan.
