A RESOLUTION authorizing the Mayor to enter into an
agreement with the State of Washington Department of Natural
Resources for an ALEA Planning Grant (AL-163).
WHEREAS, in 1867, three Port Townsend men formed the Union Wharf Company, the first
company to be incorporated into the state of Washington; and
WHEREAS, over its long history, Union Wharf has accommodated a variety of maritime and
commercial uses central to the historic downtown of Port Townsend; and
WHEREAS,
in 1981, Union Wharf was closed due to its dilapidated state and Jefferson
County and the City of Port Townsend have since worked at marketing and
reconstructing the wharf; and
WHEREAS,
the Department of Natural Resources has allocated ALEA grant funds to the City
of Port Townsend to design shoreline access along the Port Townsend waterfront
and to design an overwater structure to replace historic Union Wharf;
Now, Therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND that
the Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into an ALEA planning agreement with the Washington
State Department of Natural Resources, substantially in the form of the agreement attached
hereto as Attachment A:
