A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend supporting the Mainstreet Program's entry into
the Great American Mainstreet Awards Competition.
BE IT RESOLVED that the vitality and soul of the City of Port
Townsend are focused in our historic commercial districts and that
they are a critical component of the economic engine of the
community. They are where people see each other on a day to day
basis and they reflect and create the personality of our town.
AND BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Port Townsend wholeheartedly
supports revitalization efforts that promote and sustain the
economic development of the downtown and uptown businesses for the
benefit of the City's residents.
AND BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Port Townsend encourages the
preservatiOn and restoration of the community's historic commercial
structures which reflect significant elements of the City's
heritage.
AND BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Port Townsend supports the
stabilization and the improvement of property values in the
commercial districts by encouraging new buildings and development
that will be harmonious with existing buildings and areas.
AND BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Port Townsend participates in
the revitalization efforts through historic preservation
ordinances, financial contributions, commitment to maintaining
local government offices in the downtown, revolving loan program
administered by the Main Street Program, and small business
assistance programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Port Townsend fully
supports this entry into the Great American Main Street Awards
competition.
