AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AMENDING
THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 10.04
PARKING, SECTION 10.04.150, METHOD OF PARKING, AND
CHAPTER 10.04 PARKING, SECTION 10.04.190, TWO-HOUR PARKING
LIMIT, TO MODIFY PARKING LIMITATIONS
wHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend determines that
modification of existing parking regulations in Chapter 10.04, Parking, is appropriate
to amend and provide for certain 2 hour parking limitations as set forth in this
Ordinance, in order to facilitate movement of traffic and access to the business district,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend ordains
as follows:
SECTION 1. CHAPTER 10.04, PARKING, SECTION 10.04.150
METHOD OF PARKING, of the Port Townsend Municipal Code is hereby amended
to read as follows (strike is deleted, underline is added):
10.04.150 Method of parking.
On all streets of the city no motor vehicle shall be permitted to stand or park
unless the same has been placed with the right-hand wheels parallel with the curb and
within 12 inches thereof, excepting that on that portion of Taylor Street between Water
and Front Street, on the east side, Tyler Street between Washington Street and Water
Street, Washington Street between Quincy Street and Adams Street on the north side,
Washington Street between Quincy Street and Monroe Street on the south side,
Madison Street between Water Street and Washington Street on the east side, Tyler
Street between Lawrence Street and Clay Street on the west side, Fillmore Street
between Water Street and Washington Street on the southwest side, and Harrison Street
between Washington Street and Jefferson Street on the west side, no vehicle will be
permitted to stand or park unless the same has been placed with the longitudinal line of
its chassis at an angle of 45 degrees to the curb and with its right front wheel within six
inches of the curb; and excepting that on that portion of Tyler Street between Water
Street and Front Street, Polk Street between Water Street and Washington Street, Tyler
Street between Water Street and Washington Street on the north end, Tyler Street
intersecting with Washington Street that abuts the bluff, and Fillmore Street between
Water Street and Washington Street on the northeast side, no vehicle will be permitted
to stand or park unless the same has been placed with the longitudinal line of its chassis
at an angle of 90 degrees to the curb with its front wheels within six inches of the curb;

provided, however, that no standing or parking whatsoever of motor vehicles will be
permitted upon the streets of the city within those certain zones which the chief of
police or city council have caused to be painted yellow or red, or with the words "No
Parking," whether by lettering upon the curb or on signs erected for the purpose; and
further provided, that parking only for special purposes will be permitted upon streets
or portions of streets where the chief of police or city council have caused to be placed
signs reading "No Parking" except for purposes designated on the signs, as, for
example and not in limitations, "No Parking - Ferry Traffic." (Ord. 2000 § 2, 1984;

SECTION 2. CHAPTER 10.04, PARKING, SECTION 10.04.190 TWO-
HOUR PARKING LIMIT, of the Port Townsend Municipal Code is hereby amended
to read as follows (strike is deleted, underline is added):
10.04.190 Two-hour parking limit.
It shall be unlawful for any person to stand or park any motor vehicle
continuouslY at the same place for more than two hours between the hours of 9:00 a.m.
and 5:00 p.m. on any day except Sundays and holidays, on the following described
streets of the city:
A. On
Madison Street to
Hall;
B. On
C. On
D. On
E.
F.
Lincoln Street
G.
H.
I.
J.
Street;
Water Street from Harrison Street to Madison Street, and from
Monroe Street, on the street side adjacent to and in front of City
Taylor Street from Front Street to Washington Street;
Adams Street from Front Street to Washington Street;
Washington Street from Tyler Street to Quincy Street;
On Lawrence Street from Polk Street to Taylor Street;
On Tyler Street from Washington Street to Front Street and from
to Clay Street;
On Quincy Street from Washington Street to Water Street;
On Polk Street from Water Street to Washington Street;
On Madison Street, between Front Street and Washington Street;
On the 100 block of Quincy Street, between Front Street and Water
K. On "Waterfront Place," in the area adjacent to Quincy Street and Front
Street, to the west and east of, and adjacent to, the Quincy Street dock, and behind the
N.D. Hill Building;
L. On the 200 block of Monroe Street, from Water Street to Washington
Street;

M. Calhoun Street between Water Street and Front Street on the northeast

SECTION 3. Severability. If any proVision of this ordinance or its application
to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the ordinance, or the
application of the provision to other persons or Circumstances is not affected.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days after the date of its
publication in the manner provided by law.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, at a
regular meeting thereof, held this first day of April, 2002.
