A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN AMEMORANDUM
OF UNDERSTANDING WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY REGARDING
LAND OWNED BY JEFFERSON COUNTY WITHIN THE cITy
Whereas,
Jefferson County is the owner of two unplatted tax lots
approximately 6 acres in area (Tax Parcel No. 001032001)
adjacent to 35th- Street and Rosecrans Street that have
been determined by the County Commissioners to be surplus
land; and
Whereas,
The City and the County have been discussing proposals
regarding the development of the land with facilities for
active recreational purposes; and
Whereas,
The Parks, Recreation and Property Committee has convened
numerous public meetings to receive input from the Public
Works Department, the Parks Commission, and
representatives of various youth sport programs which
might use the facilities for team practice sessions, as
well as individuals living in the vicinity of the land;
and
Whereas,
Based on the input received, the City and the County have
reached certain understandings and agreements regarding
the terms and conditions that would be attached to
transferring ownership of the land to the City and the
types of recreational facilities that would be
appropriate for the land; and
Whereas,
The City and the County now wish to embody their
understandings and agreements in a Memorandum of
Understanding in order to provide the basis for further
action necessary to implement its provisions,
N O W T H E R E F O R E
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
that it authorizes the Mayor to sign a Memorandum of Understanding
with Jefferson County, in substantially the form attached hereto,
regarding the land described herein.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed
by the Mayor this 6th day of March, 1995.
