HomeMy WebLinkAbout95-048RESOLUTION NO. 95- ~ 8 A RESOLUTION TO CONTINUE TO ALLOW THE USE OF THE CITY'S PROPERTY AT WASHINGTON AND MONROE STREETS AS A SKATEBOARD PARK UNTIL APRIL 15, 1996. WHEREAS, The City of Port Townsend has opened up certain public land for the purpose of outdoor recreation, by allowing the free, unsupervised use of the parking lot located at Washington and Monroe streets for skateboarding purposes; and WHEREAS, The citizens of our community, of all ages, have made substantial use of this facility and have demonstrated considerable community support for its continuation at its present site; and. WHEREAS, The ramps used by skateboarders have been donated by the skateboarders or the community, and have not been built, designed, or maintained by the City; and WHEREAS, The Boiler Room has willingly come forth and offered their private services in coordinating donations for improvements to the skateboard park as well as coordination of design suggestions for improvements; and WHEREAS, The youth of our community have demonstrated maturity and responsibility in the use of this site for skateboarding; and WHEREAS, The City has allowed the use of this public property, without City oversight, management, or control (with the exception of Police supervision); and WHEREAS, The City of Port Townsend's Parks, Recreation and Property Committee unanimously believe the park is an excellent way to encourage our citizens to get good exercise and have fun in a positive manner, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the City of Port Townsend will continue to allow the recreational use of the City's property, without charge, as a Skateboard Park at its present location until April 15, 1996. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City of Port Townsend will re-stripe the remainder of the parking lot for all single car parking and relocate R.V. parking to the Haines Place Park 'N' Ride upon its completion.
