HomeMy WebLinkAbout2813 Requiring Parking within a Designated Parking SpaceOrdinance No. 2813 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AMENDING THE PORT TOWNSEND MUNICIPAL CODE, CHAPTER 10.04, PARKING, SECTION 10.04.150, METHOD OF PARKING, TO REQUIRE PARKING WITHIN A DESIGNATED PARKING SPACE WHEREAS,. the Port Townsend Municipal Code does not clearly specify that parking is required within designated parking spaces, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend ordains as follows: SECTION 1. Chapter 10.04, Parking, Section 10.04.150, Method of Parking, of the Port Townsend Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: 10.04.150 Method of parking. On all streets of the ci_ty no person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle in any designated public parking space so that any part of such vehicle protrudes beyond the markings designating such space. On all streets of the city no motor vehicle shall be permitted to stand or park unless the same has been placed with the right-hand wheels parallel with the curb and within 12 inches thereof, excepting that on that portion of Taylor Street between Water and Front Street, on the east side, Tyler Street between Washington Street and Water Street, Washington Street between Quincy Street and Adams Street on the north side, Washington Street between Quincy Street and Monroe Street on the south side, Madison Street between Water Street and Washington Street on the east side, Tyler Street between Lawrence Street and Clay Street on the west side and Harrison Street between Washington Street and Jefferson Street on the west side, no vehicle will be permitted to stand or park unless the same has been placed with the longitudinal line of its chassis at an angle of 45 degrees to the curb and with its right front wheel within six inches of the curb; and excepting that on that portion of Tyler Street between Water Street and Front Street, Polk Street between Water Street and Washington street, Tyler Street between Water Street and Washington Street on the north end, Tyler Street intersecting with Washington Street that abuts the bluff, no vehicle will be permitted to stand or park unless the same has been placed with the longitudinal line of its chassis at an angle of 90 degrees to the curb with its from wheels within six inches of the curb; provided, however, that no standing or parking whatsoever of motor vehicles will be permitted upon the streets of the city within those certain zones which the chief of police or city council have caused to be painted yellow or red, or with the words "No Parking," whether by lettering upon the curb or on signs Page 1 Ordinance 2813 erected for the purpose; and further provided, that parking only for special purposes will be permitted upon streets or portions of streets where the chief of police or city council have caused to be placed signs reading "No Parking" except for purposes designated on the signs, as, for example and not in limitation, "No Parking - Ferry Traffic." SECTION 2. Severability. If any provision of this ordinance or its application to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the ordinance, or the application of the provision to other persons or circumstances is not affected. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five days after the date of its publication in the manner provided by law.
