A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN AN APPLICATION
TO THE INTERAGENCY COMMITTEE FOR OUTDOOR RECREATION AND
WILDLIFE (IAC) FOR A GRANT TO CONSERVE URBAN WILDLIFE
HABITAT IN THE PLAT OF FOWLER'S PARK ADDITION
Whereas,
The City has previously applied for a grant from IAC for
land acquisition and other activities related to the
conservation of wetland urban wildlife habitat in the
plat of Fowler's Park Addition; and
Whereas,
The City's grant proposals to IAC previously have been
ranked highly but have not been funded due to budgetary
constraints on the state level; and
Whereas,
Recognizing the consistency of the City's previous grant
proposals with IAC goals and policies, IAC has approved
a waiver that allows for the retroactive reimbursement by
IAC for the eligible portion of expenditures in
furtherance of the grant proposal that would be the
subject of the application authorized by this resolution;
and
Whereas,
Wetland acquisitions by the City in the plat of Fowler's
Park Addition over the past several years have been
consistent with a number of the goals and objectives of
the Growth Management Act, including the preservation of
urban wildlife habitat, while at the same time preserving
open space for stormwater control purposes in furtherance
of the City's strategy of using natural systems for
Stormwater treatment and control,
N O W T H E R E F O R E
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
that it authorizes the Mayor to sign an application to the
Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation and Wildlife for a
grant regarding the conservation of urban wildlife habitat in the
plat of Fowler's Park Addition.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed
by the Mayor this 15th day_of April, 1996.
