RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
TOWNSEND DECLARING SUPPORT FOR RECYCLING EDUCATION
AND APPROVING AGREEMENT WITH SKOOKUM, INC., TO PROVIDE
EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, does resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, by Resolution 9144, the City Council established a goal to reach, maintain,
and if possible, exceed at least a 50 percent recycling rate and approved the establishment of a
recycling education account and dedication of one percent (1%) of all garbage and recycling rates
and charges to be allocated to public education for the promotion of recycling; and
WHEREAS, the City has contracted with Superior Refuse Removal, Inc. to collect
recycling at curbside in the city's residential areas and from local businesses; and
WI-IEREAS, the City Council deems it imperative that the City continue to set aside funds
to educate the public on the need to recycle and to promote recycling services offered; and
WltE~, the City Council believes that renewal of the Agreement with Skookum, Inc.
to promote recycling education is an important part of the City's recycling education strategy,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port
Townsend that:
1. In accordance with City policy as established in Council Resolution 91-44,
the City shall continue to set aside one percent (1%) from all future garbage and recycling rates
to be allocated to educate the public on the need to recycle and promote recycling services. Where
possible, these funds should be used in cooperation with Jefferson County Recycling in a
coordinated effort.
2. To continue to implement the City's recycling education strategy, the City
Council hereby approves the attached Agreement between the City and Skookum, Inc., for
recycling education services, and authorizes the Mayor to sign the Agreement in substantially the
same form as attached hereto.
