RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
TOWNSEND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A RENTAL OFFICE
SPACE AGREEMENT WITH THE PORT TOWNSEND SCHOOL
DISTRICT IN EXCHANGE FOR IN-KIND SERVICES
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, does resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the City needs additional office space for the Water Quality Division of the
Public Works Department of the City; and
WHEREAS, the District has available office space at the Gael Stuart Building, located at
1610 Blaine Street, port Townsend, Washington; and
WHE~S, pursuant to RCW 39.33, the City and the School District are authorized to
enter into agreements for the purpose of leasing real property on sUch terms and conditions as
mutually agreed to by the parties,
WHEREAS, in exchange for monetary value for the premises, the City will provide the
School District Chemistry Lab students with a tutor and/or mentor assistance for up to two hours
per week; and
WHEREAS, providing a City employee(s) for a limited amount of time per week
reasonably offsets the probable cost to the City of renting additional office space, and can be
easily implemented into staff's existing schedule; and
WHEREAS, the Utilities Committee has considered the concept of such an agreement,
and found it to be financially beneficial to the City as well as a valuable connection between City
staff and the community,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port
TOwnsend that the Mayor is authorized to sign the Rental Agreement between the City and the
Port Townsend School District in substantially the same form as attached.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor
on this 19th day of August, 1996.
