RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN
THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND FIRE DEPARTMENT AND PIERCE COUNTY
FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT 21, TO ESTABLISH COOPERATIVE
GOVERNMENTAL PURCHASING
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, resolves as follows:
WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 39.34, the City of Port Townsend and the Pierce
County Fire Protection District 21, a subdivision of the State of Washington, wish to enter into
an intergovernmental cooperative agreement in order to provide for possible purchase of fire
apparatus by the City of Port Townsend; and
WHEREAS, the Agreement potentially allows the City of Port Townsend to save
taxpayer dollars and secure a better price; and
WHEREAS, under the Agreement, Pierce County Fire Protection District 21 takes full
responsibility for compliance with all applicable bidding requirements; and
WHEREAS, the Agreement with Pierce County Fire Protection District 21 facilitates
intergovernmental cooperation, and does not result in any costs to the taxpayers of either
party; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend Fire Department acknowledges that any
purchase of fire apparatus will go forward only if the Port Townsend City Council funds such
purchase in the 1998 Budget; and
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend desires to approve this interlocal agreement at
this time because Pierce County Fire Protection District 21 intends to advertise for bids by
December 1, 1997, and the law requires that the City of Port Townsend enter into an
interlocal agreement with the other government entity in advance of that government entity's
advertisement for a vendor,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port
Townsend that the Mayor is authorized to sign the Intergovernmental Cooperative Agreement
in substantially the form as attached.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor
on this 17th day of November, 1997.
