RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE THE PORT TOWNSEND SOLID
WASTE COLLECTION AND RECYCLING CONTRACT WITH SUPERIOR
REFUSE REMOVAL, INC. FROM JANUARY 1, 1998 TO DECEMBER 31, 2002
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, resolves as follows:
WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend has negotiated a five-year contract with
Superior Refuse Removal, Inc. for solid waste collection and recycling recollection services
beginning January 1, 1998 through December 31, 2002; and
WHEREAS, solid waste collection service is a fundamental municipal function, with
uniform, managed collection necessary fOr the preservation of public health. Within its
municipal authority pursuant to Washington law, the City deems it necessary that customer
participation in the City's solid waste collection program be mandatory, and that all solid
waste collection services described in the attached Contract be handled by a single contractor;
and
WHEREAS, Superior represents that it has the experience, resources and expertise
necessary to perform solid waste collection services; and
WHEREAS, the City and Superior have negotiated a mutually advantageous proposal
for providing the public with solid waste collection services. The Port Townsend City Council
has accepted the negotiated proposal,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port
Townsend that the Mayor is authorized to sign the Contract with Superior Refuse Removal in
substantially the. form as attached.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor
on this 15th day of December, 1997.
