The successful candidate will enjoy the opportunity to further the non-motorized transporta�on focus ini�ated 20+ years ago while also tackling significant aging infrastructure challenges including water, sewer, streets, facili�es, parks, and stormwater. Con�nuing to build out the City in plats da�ng back to the 1800s represents another challenge in crea�ng infrastructure extension programs to facilitate streamlined private development consistent with the City’s adopted plans. With a 10-year strong financial outlook for capital investment and numerous infrastructure needs, this posi�on will enjoy unique challenges. Some of those projects include replacement of a wastewater treatment plant ou�all in the Strait, evalua�on and rehabilita�on of 10 miles of 30-inch raw water supply line, development of trails such as the Olympic Discover Trail, developing and imple-men�ng a street rehabilita�on program, managing the design andconstruc�ng transporta�on projects, Development of a phase 2 NPDESstormwater program, and upgrading the wastewater treatment plantamong many other projects. Popula�on: 10,330 Budget Size: $60.8 million total General Fund: $15.9 million FTE: 100+ The City of Port Townsend is accep�ng applica�ons for DEPUTY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR/CITY ENGINEER $126,631- $157,022 DOQ Open Un�l Filled Bike Month in Port Townsend Repor�ng to the Public Works Director, this role will lead engineering staff to collabora�vely provide internal support of other city departments, the public, and in the execu�on of capital projects at the right hand of the Public Works Director. The City Engineer provides an important statutory and technical role in assis�ng the en�re City team on a diverse array of engineering issues including working with the Planning and Community Development Department to represent public works in development review. A key emphasis for this posi�on is applying crea�ve engineering solu�ons in an environment with a high level of interac�on with team members, members of the public, stakeholder groups, boards and commissions, and the City Council. •$126,631- $157,022 DOQ • WA State PERS re�rement and 457 Deferred Comp Program • Medical, dental, vision, flexible spending account • Life, AD&D, & long-term disability • Sick leave (earns 1 day per month) • Vaca�on (graduated accrual schedule starts at 8 hours per month; star�ng balance nego�able) • 12 paid holidays plus two floating holidays •Employee Assistance Program (EAP) EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE The posi�on requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field and registra�on as Professional Engineer in the State of Washington. Candidates must have a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering, at least four of which are at a management or supervisory level. The ideal candidate will have experience in the public sector or as a consultant fulfilling the role of City Engineer or similar role. This posi�on provides the opportunity for advancement serving as the assistant to the Public Works Director.
