access to nearby Fort Worden State Park and Conference Center, Olympic National Park, beaches, and rain forests attract
over a million visitors each year. Residents of Port Townsend are active and engaged in civic life.
This executive leadership position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to provide astute,
stable, and principled leadership to an engaged and forward-thinking leadership team and City organization. The Director
of Finance & Technology Services will play a pivotal role in the ongoing implementation of the City's financial
sustainability plan to ensure the long-term provision of City services equitably to all residents. The Director will have the
opportunity to build on the City's strong financial position through dedicated financial stewardship and the continued
refinement of robust internal controls. The Director will ramp up visibility and accessibility to the complex information
that is provided to the Council, community, and staff, aligning this data with compelling stories that are meaningful and
easy to understand. The Director will have the opportunity to engage with the community and build effective and
beneficial relationships with elected members, external organizations and partners, state and federal agencies, and
banking/lending institutions. As the leader and member of a small but dedicated finance and information technology
team, the Director will support the team while building interdepartmental relationships and assisting in lifting the entire
organizational culture.

The Director of Finance & Technology Services fills a key leadership role for the City of Port Townsend and the
successful candidate will bring skills in collaboration, innovation and communication to the leadership team. Strong
technical financial skills and the ability to provide leadership to the finance and information technology team, with
the willingness and eagerness to coach, mentor, and share skills and knowledge. Familiarity with state and federal
agencies, funding and revenue streams, and an understanding and commitment to compliance with program
regulations is needed. This Director role requires hands-on accounting and finance proficiency coupled with the
ability to think and act strategically. Strong communications skills are required to effectively deliver key messages to
City leaders, the community, leadership team members, and City staff. The Finance & Technology Services
Department provides customer service, accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant
management, and technology services to the City organization.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration,
Business Administration, or other closely related subject that includes class experience in accounting, investment,
financial management and analysis, and information technology administration.
At least five years of progressively responsible experience in the preparation and management of governmental
budgets, accounting, auditing or a closely related field. Governmental accounting and financial management
experience is preferred.
Certified Public Accountant, MBA or MFA is preferred.
