RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
APPROVING AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE PORT TOWNSEND
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOR OPERATION OF A VISITOR INFORMATION
CENTER
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, does resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, in previous years, the Port Townsend chamber of Commerce has operated
a Visitor Information Center with substantial funding provided by the City of Port Townsend from
,'hotel/motel tax" revenue; and
WHEREAS, on September 15, 1997, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2607,
establishing a "Lodging Tax Advisory Committee" to enable the City to take advantage of lodging
tax authority, as established by the Washington State Legislature, SSB 5867, Chapter 542, Laws
of 1997; and
WHEREAS, through the 1998 budgetary process, the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee
recommended, and the Port Townsend City Council adopted, an appropriation from the City's
lodging tax revenue, for the operation of the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Center;
and
WHEREAS, the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee has reviewed the proposed Agreement
between the City and the Chamber of Commerce attached to this resolution, and recommends
Council approval of the agreement; and
WHEREAS, all funds necessary for the operation of the Visitor Information Center, in
accordance with the attached Agreement, have been approved and appropriated through the 1998
Budget; and
WHEREAS, the Port Townsend City Council finds that the operation of the Visitor
Information Center by the Chamber of Commerce, in accordance with the terms of the attached
Agreement, substantially benefits the residents of Port Townsend, and is well within the City's
authority of funding in accordance with Washington law,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port
Townsend that the Agreement for Operation of a Visitor Information Center is approved and the
Mayor is authorized to execute the Agreement in substantially the form as attached. The attached
Agreement is approved retroactive to January 1, 1998.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor
on this 6th day of April, 1998.
