RESOLUTION NO. 23-022
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, ADOPTING AN AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
TRANSITION PLAN FOR PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY
WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Local Programs
requires the City of Port Townsend adopt an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) transition plan
for public rights of way prior to April 1, 2023 or risk losing federal grant funding; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed ADA transition plan focuses on removing barriers following
WSDOT guidance and industry standards in City sidewalks; and,
WHEREAS, future phases of the ADA transition plan will consider City parks, facilities,
and shared use paths and trails; and
WHEREAS, the City published notice of a public hearing to adopt the ADA Transition Plan
for Public Rights of Way in the Port Townsend Leader on March 1 and March 8, 2023; and
WHEREAS, the City held a public hearing to consider the ADA Transition Plan for Public
Rights of Way on March 20, 2023;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend to adopt the Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Plan for Public Rights of Way
as shown in exhibit A.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port ToNvi send at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 201h day of March 2023.
