RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF
UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CITY, JEFFERSON COUNTY, PUD NO. 1,
AND PORT OF PORT TOWNSEND FOR CONTINUED SUPPORT OF THE
JEFFERSON COUNTY WATER RESOURCES COUNCIL
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, resolves as follows:
WHEREAS, the City desires to continue its contribution and support of the Jefferson
County Water Resources Council ("the Council") and wishes to execute a Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) between the City, Jefferson County, PUD No. 1 of Jefferson CoUnty, and
the Port of Port Townsend for the ongoing work of the Council; and
WHEREAS, Jefferson County Water Resources Council has been coordinating activities
related to the implementation of the Dungeness-Quilcene Water ResOurces Management Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Ecology has awarded a grant under House Bill 2514 for
Water Resource Inventory Area 17 (WRIA), allocating financial assistance to the Council for
water resources activities; and
WHEREAS, the above four entities have an interest in sustaining the activities of the
Jefferson County Water Resources Council; and
'WHEREAS, Jefferson County is the lead funding agency for watershed management
grants offered by the Department of Ecology and specifically, the HB2514 Grant, and the City
believes it is efficient for Jefferson County also to maintain the responsibility as fiscal agent for
~ Jefferson County Water Resources Council; and
WHEREAS, all members of the Council have reviewed the attached MOU and
unanimously recommend approval; and
WHEREAS, the attached MOU will enable improved financial management of Council
activities, and will result in less cost to the City,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port
Townsend that the Mayor is authorized to execute the Memorandum of Agreement in
substantially the form as attached to this resolution.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor
on this 21st day of December, 1998.
