The new breakwaters will be a combined rock and steel pipe pile breakwater system. In addition, a bulkhead extending shoreward of the south breakwater leg will be replaced and maintenance dredging of the navigation channel will occur following construction of the new breakwaters. In-water, construction will include removal of the existing breakwater outer and core materials, dredging, debris disposal, installation of a rock habitat feature using recovered materials, and construction of the replacement breakwater. Above the high tide line, work will include excavating and backfillingbehind the replacement bulkhead (south breakwater), placing armor rock, installing walers (horizontal structural beams) above the water line to tie the steel piles together, replacing the pavement near the top of the south breakwater and bulkhead, installing signage, replacing the pedestrian walkway atop the south arm of the breakwater, and installing navigation lights. Conceptually, the proposed design is the same as the original 1930s era structures: batter-driven piles forming a"cage" around a core of armor rock. The alignment of the reconstructed breakwaters would also be substantially the same as the existing structures. However, the replacement breakwaters would be constructed using steel pilings, rather than creosote-treated timber piles, and likely granite quarry spalls, in lieu of the highly friable Mats Mats basalt spalls. In essence, the design echoes the original design, but employs more durable, modem, and environmentally benign materials. iz f ;n U o 3 I 20 BELLINGHAIV 01 2 PROJECT LOCATION EVERETT SEATTLE s7 FORKS ANGELES OUINAULT 12 ACOMA YMPIA 0 \ SO1 T3ON ROlW DRAWNG LIST SHEET NO,SHEET TITLE 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 I 10 COVER SHEET EXISTING SI-TE PLAN PROPOSED SITE PLAN EXISTING SECTIONS I EXISTING SECTIONS 2 PROPOSED SECTIONS 1 PROPOSED SECTIONS 2 PROPOSED SECTIONS 3 PROPOSED UPLAND PLAN NAVIGATION AID DETAILS WASHINGTON KEY MAP LOCATION MAP TIDAL WATER LEVELS (MLLW HIGH TIDE LINE IVEAN HIGHER HIGH WATER fuIEAN HIGH WATER sO-YR EXTREME HIGH MEAN TIDE LEVEL MEAN LOWER LOWWATER EXTREME LOWWATER s.99 FT 8.25 FT 7.A4 FT 13.12 FT 5.'t7 FT 0.00 FT -4.22 Fr 1 0,000'trtFr0 20.000' 1 19 FORT CASEY DISCOVERY BAY PUGET SOUND BAY PROJECT SITE LAT:48" 06'57.63"N LONG: 122" 45'1.20"W PORT TOWNSEND PORT TO\^AISEND CHIMACUM DRAFT PROPOSED: REPLACEI\IENT EXISTING BREAKWATER lN: PORTTOWNSEND BAY, ADMIRALIY INLET AT: PORT TOWNSEND, WA COUNTY: JEFFERSONCOUNTY SHEET 1 OF 10 DATE: lOEl2O POINT HUDSON MARINA B REAKWATER REPLACEM ENT COVER SHEET PURPOSE: REPLACE EXISTING BREAKWATER FOR MARINA PROTECTION VERTICALDATUM: l/LLW APPLICATION BY: PoRT OF PORI TOWNSEND USACE #: NWS-2020-XX ADJACENT PROPERTY OWNERS: 1.
