Adjourn DRAFT CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND MINUTES OF THE SALARY COMMISSION OCTOBER 12, 2021 CALL TO ORDER The Port Townsend Salary Commission met on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, virtually in the City Council Chambers at 540 Water Street. Chair Deborah Stinson called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Other members present were Jack McCreary, Kristine Morris, George Randels, and Julia Cochrane. Also present: Heidi Greenwood, City Attorney APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes of the 9/28/2021 were approved DISCUSSION The Commission discussed how each commissioner approaches the Council salary. Commissioners discussed that the City budget must be balanced and so paying Council members more means cutting somewhere else. They also discussed the need for salary to bring diversity to Council and that the Council feels undervalued. The Commission discussed the gathered data and noted the difficulty in comparing cities, city budget, and outside boards and commissions. The Commission noted that if the City had applied the CPI to the Council salary, then the Council salary would be at the average of the comparable cities. The Commission discussed the possibility of a town hall type meeting but determined not to schedule one at this time. The Commission then discussed the City budget and how their decision would impact it. Finally, the Commission agreed that each commissioner would come to the next meeting with a recommendation for the Council salary. PUBLIC COMMENT - NONE DRAFT SET AGENDA FOR NEXT MEETING AND FUTURE MEETING SCHEDULE The Commission plans to discuss gathered data and their recommendations at the next meeting on October 28, 2021 at 3:00 pm. The meeting will be held virtually.
