RESOLUTION NO. 21-017
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON APPROVING THE LOCATIONS FOR CREATIVE DISTRICT'S ART
MARKERS AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL
AGREEMENTS NECESSARY FOR THEIR INSTALLATION
WHEREAS, the Washington State Arts Commission designated the Port Townsend
Creative District in 2020; and
WHEREAS, the Creative District includes the historic uptown and downtown areas as well
as the Fort Worden campus; and
WHEREAS, the Creative District received a grant from ArtsWA and also funds from local
businesses, property owners and nonprofits including the Port Townsend Library Foundation to
create art markers sculptures and wayfinding signage for the Creative District; and
WHEREAS, the Creative District selected artist Jonah Trople to create the art markers that
are five large cedar sculptures to be installed at the entrances of the creative district; and
WHEREAS, the locations for the sculptures are on City-owned property or public right-of-
way; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 3.50 of the Port Townsend Municipal Code reserves the approval for
siting of public art to the City Council;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend, Washington, that City Council approves the locations for the Creative Districts' Art
Markers and authorizes the City Manager to execute all agreements necessary for their installation.
ADOPTED by the City Council of Port Townsend, Washington, at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 15"' day of March 2021.
