A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT
TOWNSEND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE PORT OF PORT TOWNSEND
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOR OPERATION OF A VISITOR
INFORMATION CENTER
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, does resolve as follows:
on September 15, 1997, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2607,
establishing a "Lodging Tax Advisory Committee" to enable the City to take
advantage of lodging tax authority, as established by the Washington State
Legislature, SSB 5867, Chapter 542, Laws of 1997; and
through the 1999 budgetary process, the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee
recommended, and the Port Townsend City Council adopted, an appropriation
from the City's lodging tax revenue, for the operation of the Chamber of
Commerce Visitor Information Center and hiring a tourism marketing coordinator
through the Chamber's supervision; and
WHEREAS,
on January 19, 1999, the City Council adopted Resolution 99-005, approving
Chamber of Commerce 1999 Agreement for the visitor information center
operation; and
WHEREAS,
the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee has reviewed the proposed Agreement
between the City and the Chamber of Commerce and recommends Council
approval of the 2000 Agreement; and
WHEREAS, all funding not to exceed $50,000 for the operation of the Visitor Information
Center has been approved and appropriated through the 2000 Budget; and
WHEREAS,
the City Council find that the operation of the Visitor Information Center by the
Chamber of Commerce substantially benefits the residents of Port Townsend, and
is within the City's authority of funding in accordance with Washington law,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend,
that the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the 2000 Agreement for the Port
Townsend Chamber of Commerce operation of a Visitor Information Center effective for the
calendar year 2000..
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend and signed by the Mayor on this
7th day of February, 2000.
