RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A SECOND AMENDMENT
TO WATER CONTRACT (GLEN COVE SERVICE AREA) WITH JEFFERSON
COUNTY PUBLIC UTILITY DISTRICT 1, EXTENDING THE EXPIRATION
DATE OF THE AGREEMENT TO JANUARY 1, 2005.
The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, does resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the City owns and operates a system for the supply, transmission and
distribution of water and is authorized to sell water which is surplus to the capacity needed to
serve the long-term needs of City residents, to other persons and entities outside the corporate
limits of the City; and
WHEREAS, the PUD owns and operates utilities in Jefferson County, including water
systems outside of the City's water service areas. The PUD is authorized to purchase and furnish
water and to enter into agreements relating to water service areas and water supply sources; and
WHEREAS, the 1983 Contract was amended on March 02, 1998 to increase the gallons
furnished by the City to PUD to serve the Glen Cove Service Area from 50,000 gallons per day
to 75,000 gallons per day.
WHEREAS, the 1983 Contract expired on January 1, 2000 and the City and the PUD
desires to renegotiate this agreement; and
WHEREAS, in order to give each entity time to exam the issues and negotiate a contract
beneficial to both parties, the City and the PUD agree to extend the expiration date of the contract
an additional five years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port
Townsend that the City Manager is authorized to execute the Second Amendment to Water
Contract in substantially the form as attached.
