HomeMy WebLinkAbout00-027Resolution No. 00- ~.~, '7 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE RENEWAL OF AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT NO. 6 FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORT SERVICE FOR A ONE-YEAR PERIOD, RETROACTIVE FROM JANUARY 1, 2000 TO DECEMBER 31, 2000, AND TO CONTINUE THEREAFTER FOR CONSECUTIVE ANNUAL TERMS The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, resolves as follows: WHEREAS, the City of Port Townsend maintains a basic and Advanced Life Support/Paramedic call service as part of its Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 6 does not have the capability nor expertise to provide Emergency Medical Transport Services, and calls upon Port Townsend to provide such service; and WHEREAS, at a regularly scheduled City Council meeting March 4, 1996, an Interlocal Agreement for Emergency Medical Services with District 6 was adopted by Resolution 96-40; and WHEREAS, in addition to the customary charges assessed per customer, the 1996 Agreement set an City Fire Department annual service fee of $17,000, to be paid by District 6; and WI-W~S, the City and District 6 have agreed to modify the transport service fee to a $175-per-patient, per-transport charge, contingent on the outcome of a Special Fire and Life Safety Services District Formation (merger) study for election by Jefferson County voters in the respective jurisdictions for November 2000; and WHEREAS, the new 2000 Agreement shall be for Emergency Medical Transport and incidental to transport, basic life support or advanced life support service, retroactive from January 1, 2000 through December 31, 2000, and shall continue thereafter for consecutive annual terms until termination or modification by either party at the end of any calendar year or by 90 days written notice by either party. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council for the City of Port Townsend that the City Manager is authorized and directed to execute the Interlocal Agreement for emergency Medical Transport Service with Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 6 for the City of Port Townsend to provide EMT/EMS transport service to the residents of Fire District No. 6 for a fee of $175-per-patient, per-transport, in addition to any customary charges for services assessed, in substantially the same form as attached to this resolution; and IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Agreement is subject to the voters of Jefferson County approving the Special Fire and Life Safety Services District Formation (merger) study. In the event this proposed merger fails, the agreement between the City and District 6 shall then be renegotiated at that time.
