A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND
ESTABLISHING THE INTENT TO COMMIT FUNDS EQUAL TO 1/3 OF $100,000
MATCHING FUNDS TO THE JEFFERSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
BELL TOWER RESTORATION PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Historical Society (JCHS) desires to obtain a Washington
Heritage Grant for restoration of the historic Bell Tower; and
WHEREAS, if the grant request is approved, the JCHS must show a commitment from the city
to match $100,000 of the proposed funding; and
WHEREAS, the JCHS has requested that 1/3 of the money ($33,334.00) be committed by the
council as cash from an appropriate revenue source, and
WHEREAS, the City intends to supply the other 2/3 of the money ($66,666.00) through other
means including donations and grant funding;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend as
follows:

The City Council will commit $33,334.00 to the Jefferson County
Historical Society to represent 1/3 of the $100,000.00 commitment
necessary for JCHS to receive a Washington Heritage Grant to repair the
Bell Tower;
The source of funding will be 1-695 supplemental budget funds;
The remainder of the $100,000.00 funding commitment ($66,666.00) will
be raised by the City from various sources which may include donations
and other grants;
An agreement will be finalized during the FY2001 budget process which
will detail the parmership between the City and the JCHS to supply the
requisite funding for receipt of the Washington Heritage grant.
ADOPTED by the City CoUncil of the City of Port Townsen~r on this
first day of May, 2000.
