RESOLUTION NO. 20-063
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, URGING THE JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
TO CONSIDER IMPOSING THE SALES AND USE TAX FOR HOUSING AND
RELATED SERVICES AUTHORIZED BY RCW 82.14.530
WHEREAS, RCW 82.14.530 authorizes a county legislative authority to impose a sales
and use tax for housing and related services; and
WHEREAS, Jefferson County and the City of Port Townsend have a shortage of all types
of housing, but particularly affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, Jefferson County and the City of Port Townsend signed an interlocal
agreement to support affordable housing and homeless housing programs; and
WHEREAS, the parties amended the agreement in 2020; and
WHEREAS, the parties agreed to work together to alleviate the homeless and housing
crisis in Port Townsend and Jefferson County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend, Washington, that the City Council urges the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners
to consider imposing the sales and use tax for housing and related services authorized by RCW
82.14.530 guided by the draft housing strategy developed in partnership by the City, County, and
providers.
ADOPTED by the City Council of Port Townsend, Washington, at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 7th day of December 2020.
