RESOLUTION NO. 20-056
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND,
WASHINGTON, TASKING THE CITY COUNCIL RULES COMMITTEE TO DRAFT A
NATIVE LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IN COORDINATION WITH LOCAL TRIBES
WHEREAS, the City Council Rules Committee is tasked with updating and amending the
City Council Rules of Procedure; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council Rules of Procedure Article 1 allows the City Council to
recite the Pledge of Allegiance at City Council meetings; and,
WHEREAS, the geographic limits of the City of Port Townsend encompass the unceded
land of several neighboring Native American nations; and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to appropriately acknowledge the territorial lands of
the Native Americans neighbors and wishes to work with our tribal neighbors on jointly
formulating proper language for it;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend, Washington, the City Council Rules Committee is tasked with reaching out to local
Native American tribal nations in order to formulate an appropriate acknowledgement of the their
unceded traditional territories in the City of Port Townsend.
ADOPTED by the City Council of Port Townsend, Washington, at a regular meeting
thereof, held this 2nd day of November 2020.
